Before Botox Treatment

-
Avoid smoking and drinking starting a week before your appointment, as they can delay skin healing.
-
Take bruise-preventing supplements like arnica and bromelain 2-4 days before your session if you are bruise-prone.
-
Avoid over the counter blood thinners like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (Advil, Aleve) and some health supplements like Vitamin E, starting two days prior to your injection. Call if you have questions. This will help prevent bruising at the injection site.
-
Keep treatment areas makeup-free before coming in for your appointment.
These tips are not required to follow for your injections, but can be beneficial for you to have the best preparation for your treatment.
After-care Information
Aftercare information is essential for anyone who has undergone a cosmetic procedure, including Botox injections. It is important to follow the post-treatment instructions provided by your healthcare provider to ensure the best possible results and to reduce the risk of complications.

Common aftercare instructions for Botox injections and other cosmetic procedures include avoiding strenuous activities, applying ice or a cold compress to the treated area, avoiding touching or rubbing the area, and avoiding alcohol and blood-thinning medications. Additionally, it is important to keep the treated area clean and dry, and to avoid sun exposure until the area has healed.

I will provide you with specific aftercare instructions based on your individual needs and the type of procedure you have undergone, and it is important to follow these instructions carefully for the best possible outcomes. A generalized list, though not entirely specific to your procedure, is included below.
Botox Post Treatment Instructions
· Do NOT massage or apply pressure on the treated area for 6-8hrs after treatment since Botox may migrate to areas of undesirable effectiveness.
· Do NOT lie down for 6 hours after treatment. Also Do NOT lean forward, shower, cook over a hot stove.
· You MUST keep your head UPRIGHT for at least 4 hours after injection.
· Avoid yoga or other rigorous exercise activities, extensive sun or heat exposure, and alcoholic beverages for the 1st 24 hours after treatment. This may cause temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the sites of the injection.
· Avoid facials and saunas for 24 hours after treatment since this will decrease the chance of your blood pressure rising and thus decrease the chance of minor and temporary bruising.
· Try to exercise your treated muscles for about 2 hours after treatment (e.g. practice frowning, raising your eyebrows or squinting). This helps to work Botox Cosmetic into your muscles. It will NOT negatively impact your treatment if you don’t do this.
· Headaches are common. Botox is even used to treat headaches. However, if you have a headache we recommend you avoid aspirin or aspirin containing products. You may opt instead to use Tylenol, and/or cool compresses. If headaches continue or worsen, contact your physician.
· Avoid taking Advil, Vitamin E, Ginger, Ginko, Bilboa, Ginseng, and Garlic for 2 weeks since this may increase the risk of bruising. You may shower and do most other regular daily activities.
· Note that any bumps or marks will go away within a few hours. If you do develop a bruise it will resolve like other bruises you have had in about a week. There is occasionally some mild pain, swelling, itching, or redness at the site of injection similar to most other injections. Redness may last for 1-2 days, rarely longer. You may apply cold compresses or acetaminophen (Tylenol) to reduce swelling or discomfort.
· Results of your treatment may take up to 14 days to take full effect although many people will recognize the benefits in 3-5 days after treatment.
· Botox Cosmetic is a temporary procedure. In most people the benefits of Botox last about 6 months. Sometimes a few wrinkles may start to return in 2-3 months. The effectiveness of Botox will last longer with successive treatments.
· Initially, I will want to see you between 2-4 weeks for a brief “touch-up” and checkup of the procedure. If you allow Botox to completely wear off, it can be difficult for me to be able to see how your individual muscles reacted and therefore, optimal results for your face can be more difficult to achieve.
· Makeup: It is recommended that you wait 24 hours after the treatment before applying make-up.
· Cold compresses may be used 10 minutes on 10 minutes off, do not put ice directly on the skin, use a towel between skin and ice to reduce swelling 2-3x per day during the 1st 1-2 days while awake, if needed.

Day of Treatment:

-
Bruising at the treatment site may occur. Temporary, minimal to moderate swelling can be expected. It is normal to experience some tenderness at the treatment site that can last for a few hours or, at times, a couple of days. It is normal to feel “firmness” in your treated area/s for the first few days after treatment. Over time, the area/s will soften and “settle”.
-
Do NOT touch, press, rub, or manipulate the implanted areas for 12 hours after treatment. This can cause irritation, sores or possible scarring. When cleansing your face or applying make-up, use gentle, sweeping motions to avoid excessive mobility of the area/s.
-
Apply cool compresses to the area/s treated (avoiding pressure).
-
You may begin wearing makeup once you have adequately cooled/iced the area/s, and any pinpoint bleeding from the injection site/s has subsided.
-
If you experience any mild tenderness or discomfort, you may take acetaminophen/Tylenol. Avoid aspirin or ibuprofen products, vitamin E and fish oil, as they may increase your potential to bruise.
-
Avoid drinking alcohol for a minimum of 12 hours as this may contribute to bruising.
Post-Treatment:
Please report to your provider if any increased pain, increased swelling, redness, blisters, or itching immediately, should it occur following your treatment.
24-72 Hours Post
-
Avoid submerging head under water for a full 24 hours after midface treatment; this includes pools, beach, bathtub, hot tub, etc.
-
Avoid vigorous exercise, sun and heat exposure for 1 day after treatment. Avoid extended UV exposure until any redness has subsided. Apply an SPF 30 or higher sunscreen to the treated area/s.
-
Ice the treated areas for the next 1-2 days. Place the icepack on the area for 20 minutes and remove the ice pack for 20 minutes.
-
Try to avoid wearing makeup until the day after treatment. Earlier use may cause pustules. If you must wear makeup we recommend a good quality mineral makeup for the face.
-
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplement, high-sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined carbohydrates, spicy foods, and cigarettes 24-48 hours after your treatment. These items may contribute to increased swelling or irritation.
-
Avoid the use of Retin-A or similar products (ex. Kinerase, Tazarac) 2 days after treatment to avoid increased irritation or redness.
-
No facial massage for 72 hours
1-2 Weeks Post
-
Avoid Aspirin, Motrin, Ginkgo Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids at least 3 days to 1 week after treatment. These items may increase bleeding and bruising.
-
Avoid obtaining any vaccination, dental cleaning, dental work, lesion excision or biopsy, surgery of any kind, internal device placement, tattoo or permanent makeup for 2 weeks following procedure.
-
2 weeks of healing time is normal. One side may heal faster than the other
-
Avoid cosmetic treatments such as laser, ultrasound, peels, facials or microdermabrasion for 2-4 weeks after treatment.
Microneedling Before and After Care
What Should You Do Before and After a Microneedling Session?
You will get transformative results from your microneedling session, but you play a part in controlling the outcome of your treatment. It is important that you follow some simple directives before and after your treatment to prepare your skin and care for it post-treatment to make sure that you aren’t left with angry, irritated, red skin after your session.

PREPARING YOUR SKIN FOR TREATMENT
While this list may seem extensive, the pre-treatment instructions are simple and are only temporary. Following these directives will ensure that your skin is ready for treatment and responds well to this collagen induction therapy. The goal of this treatment is to improve the current state of the skin and address problem areas, not create new ones. By avoiding certain products and abstaining from the sun, you can rest assured you will get the best results.

Avoid Exfoliating Products
Many exfoliating products strip the skin of the essential protective barrier that keeps it calm, protects it from harmful bacteria, and helps keep inflammation at bay. When you schedule your treatment, avoid exfoliating products one week before your appointment so that your skin is calm, protected, and ready for treatment.

Temporarily Discontinue the Use of Certain Topical Products
Even though your nightly routine may be like a religious ceremony, you’ll need to temporarily adjust your topical products in the week leading up to your treatment. Avoid the use of topical products that contain active ingredients, such as alpha-hydroxy acids, retinoids, chemical exfoliants, or topical antibiotics. These products increase the sensitivity of your skin, which produces the opposite effect necessary to prepare the skin for treatment.

Avoid Accutane
Some swear by Accutane and claim that it’s the only thing that has helped them get clear skin. While Accutane may be effective, it creates the opposite skin environment necessary for a successful microneedling session. If you are interested in scheduling this treatment, you must temporarily discontinue the use of Accutane medication for at least six months before treatment to get the best results.

Stay Out of the Sun
Sunburned skin is red, angry, inflamed, and not suitable for a microneedling session. Avoid sun exposure 24 hours before your treatment, and make sure that your skin does not get sunburned in the week leading up to your appointment. If you are exposed to the sun, wear a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen suitable for the face to keep yourself protected from the elements. Doing so will be an investment in your future treatment results.

Schedule Your Treatment Around Botox Appointments
If you undergo regular Botox treatments, you need to wait to schedule your collagen induction therapy treatment until at least two weeks after your Botox appointment. This will make sure that you get the best results from your injectable treatment, as well as your microneedling treatment.

THE DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT
On the day of your appointment, wash your face with a gentle cleanser and show up to your treatment with clean skin free of make-up or products. Doing so will make sure that you are fully prepared to begin your treatment as soon as you get there. If you are unable to show up with a make-up-free face because you’re coming straight from work or another event to your appointment, we will be able to cleanse your skin for you.

TAKING CARE OF YOUR SKIN POST-TREATMENT
Your skin post-treatment is like a sponge. It has been perforated with tiny micro-channels, which has opened it up to better absorb products, especially those fortified with nutrient-rich ingredients. Taking care of your skin post-treatment is essential to getting the best results and helping your skin recover from the micro-injuries created during your session.

Continue to Avoid Certain Topical Products
Don’t go home after your appointment and apply any of those topical products that you’ve been avoiding just yet. Continue to refrain from using active products, including alpha-hydroxy acids, any products containing retinoids such as Retin-A or other Vitamin A products, and products containing Vitamin C for at least three days post-treatment. After a few days, you can continue to use these products without having to worry about irritating your skin.

Avoid the Sun
In the same way that you need to avoid the sun before treatment, you also need to avoid it post-treatment for at least 48 hours. Avoid unnecessary sunlight, and when you are exposed to the sun, even if simply walking to and from your car in a driveway or parking lot, wear a hat, sunglasses, and a chemical-free sunscreen to protect your skin.

You should also avoid tanning beds after your treatment. These beds shed damaging light onto the surface of the skin. Continue to use a facial sunscreen after your treatment daily to protect your skin. Make the daily application of sunscreen a habit. Doing so will help both help protect your skin from sunburn and keep it from premature aging.

Stay Out of the Pool
Due to the chemicals present in pool water, you should avoid swimming for at least 24 hours post-treatment. These chemicals can penetrate and irritate your skin which is vulnerable to all outside elements immediately after treatment. Once those 24 hours have passed, you can swim as much as you’d like. If you are a regular swimmer and staying out of the pool is not possible, wait to schedule your appointment until you can avoid swimming.

Avoid Strenuous Exercise
Try to avoid exercising in a gym-setting for 24 hours post-treatment. Sweat and the possibility of coming into contact with harmful bacteria are two reasons to avoid a gym setting the day following your treatment. The salt in your sweat may irritate your open skin and will act as an inhibitor to the healing process. Opt for light exercises that won’t irritate your skin for at least 24 hours.

-Do not exercise for 4 weeks post treatment until filler is settled
-Avoid excessive massage for 4 weeks, light pressure massages for pain relief are okay, please call if you are experiencing discomfort.
